his is a story about Opogi, a Bornean crocodile who is over a year old and who lives in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Written largely in Opogi and his relatives' voices, the young crocodile takes readers on a journey to discover what he learns from those around him. He lives in the ecologically important Kinabatangan region in eastern Sabah, an area that is also known for its vast agricultural plantations. From those around him, Opogi learns about the origin of crocodiles, their distribution worldwide and locally, and of folklore that associates this reptile with humans and other animals. This publication also covers the nesting behaviour of crocodiles, their diet, homing patterns, sensory organs and research that is done on the species. Pressures including hunting and other threats are also touched on. Photos in this publication showcase crocodiles and their habitat, and other wildlife found in Sabah. Opogi: a Bornean Crocodile provides an overview of this reptile and will hopefully inspire readers to better understand this species.

Itin, a Bornean Elephant

This is a story about Itin, an eight-year-old Bornean elephant who lives in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. In his journey of discovery, Itin learns from his mother and relatives about folklore that tells how elephants are revered by indigenous communities, and what he should expect once he leaves the herd. Written largely in Itin and his relatives' voices, Itin: A Bornean Elephant also covers facts on elephants including unique features, social behaviour and communication methods. Itin: A Bornean Elephant highlights threats that Bornean elephants face daily, such as when their migratory paths are blocked by changes in land use or other forms of development. It also describes some of the scientific and field work that is done to protect elephant habitats, and their long-term survival in a fragmented landscape. Peppered with colour pictures, Itin: A Bornean Elephant will hopefully inspire readers to better understand the plight of this endangered mammal, and what its future holds against a backdrop of increasing demands for a comfortable lifestyle.

When anybody sees a proboscis monkey in the wild for the first time, they are staggered. Not uncommonly, they make a remark such as "I don't believe that animal!". Even seeing them in zoos is not enough to be prepared for seeing these extraordinary animals in their natural habitat, with all the noise and spectacle involved.
